Short Blog 8 — Comment on Alivia Barone’s Long Blog 3
Hey Alivia! I really enjoyed your piece about the change in art in the city during the pandemic. I love enjoying art during walks through the city and the pieces you posted definitely catch my eye. I really liked how you decided to look at a more positive aspect that the pandemic has brought and given your readers a perspective of art through your eyes. I am also part of that demographic that tried to break free from unhealthy quarantine habits by going outside and enjoying nature and art. Alongside the Anzil family, I too have found that this pandemic has brought my family closer together by enjoying each others’ presence and our surroundings. It allowed us to take a break from our busy lives, as before the pandemic we were all working and in school, thus rarely having time for each other. I also agree with how you’re envious of the art downtown compared to your city, as where I live, there isn’t much art to enjoy as well. However, there are pockets of art here and there. One of my favourite pieces of art in my city is right by where I live on Lawrence Ave East, where the residents of the area have painted a giant mural on the building which showcases a woman and a child painting and growing a tree. I believe this represents a place in which children can learn, grow, and thrive. Another example, although indoors, is in the Scarborough Town Centre which displays different parts of Scarborough in a graffiti style mural, created by DuroTheThird. Overall I really enjoyed the art that you showed and definitely related to your take on using art as an outlet to take your mental health into consideration and to give yourself a well needed break.
